Entrepreneurial Giving (EG) is about bringing together a global network of entrepreneurs united by building purpose into their business. We were honoured to be joined at our launch by Sir Charles Dunstone, founder of the Carphone Warehouse, the UK’s first digital billionaire, who led a discussion on how purpose has shaped his career in business and was integral to his success.
Sir Charles, introduced by Maurice Ostro OBE, the founder of Entrepreneurial Giving and a distinguished entrepreneur in his own right – started by outlining his secret for business success “Be nice and think like a rebel.” Sir Charles elaborated on how business attitudes are changing, as the world becomes more aware of the social impact of companies – both positive and negative “This may seem bizarre, but the generous way out of a situation is often the best way”.
EG is also about connectivity – Sir Charles was live streamed across four countries and three continents – and we were joined by entrepreneurs in Cape Town South Africa, Frankfurt Germany and Billings Montana all of whom actively participated in the session, asking questions and pressing Sir Charles on what they could learn from his story and his success.
After Sir Charles’ closing comments, the real work of Entrepreneurial Giving began – entrepreneurs in each of our four locations shared ideas with each other about how they could change their business to maximise purpose and social impact.
Phil from the London Consultancy Reluctantly Brave contributed to the London session by outlining how their business incorporated purpose into the founding document of the business – meaning that from inception, the business was committing to delivering for wider society. The session bubbled with ideas about how business can do good to do well and how purpose can be embedded right from the very start.
Entrepreneurial Giving is all about how we can do business, better. This launch event was just the start of a movement to change the culture of business to better serve our customers, our employees and our planet. If you want to join us – get involved today.
